HIDDEN MATTER

2013

“Being in a state of grace so that you are open to it…when you are immersed you notice connections”. - Tacita Dean.

Hidden Matter stems from an obsessive fascination with surfaces, examining mundane and everyday objects often found in homes - specifically macro objects such as skirting boards and collected-dust arrangements.

Attempting to uncover visual codes and aesthetic connections between mundane objects and nature, Hidden Matter is an investigation, visually and aesthetically examining the materiality of the mundane, and how these surfaces connect with natural and universal phenomena.

Photography is used as a way to record observations that evoke curiosity and fascination within the visualness of the mundane. These series of observations invite the spectator to attempt to uncover a narrative and decode their visual potential meanings.
